Description
«Song of the setting sun» is a rather old work by Andrey Klimkovsky. It was written without any musical instrument at all, and the person who wrote it was not a musician at that moment, but a sergeant in the Soviet Army and was on duty with a gun and in felt boots. And at the same time, the melody was born and it did not care about the hardships and hardships of military service, which commanders so often recall when citing the Charter. The only thing left to do was not to forget these notes and rhythm for the remaining year in the war service. And Andrey Klimkovsky did not forget her. And he even wrote a few more melodies in the same way, which formed the program of the album «Aegean Sea» which connoisseurs of the composer's work have been looking forward to for many years, but the recording of the album has been postponed year after the year.
Meanwhile, the release of this maxi-single was the first step towards the beginning of work on «Aegean Sea». Before the release of the studio album, Andrei Klimkovsky plans to release three more singles based on plays and melodies from the «Aegean Sea» — «In spite of laws», «The sky of beautiful Hellas» and «Sea dawn».
In that maxi-single features working and experimental versions of two compositions that are also related to the «Aegean Sea» — «Song of the setting sun» in four versions, including the super-long 30-minute full version and «The reverse side of expectation» in a single-edition. The composition «After the sunset» was written especially for this single, it has nothing to do with the album «Aegean Sea» and is just a gift from Andrey Klimkovsky to the audience.
UPD : On May 19, 2025, two bonus tracks were added to the track list of this maxi-single.
These are two versions of «Song of the setting sun» from 2023, one of which features the trumpet of James Hill, an American jazz trumpeter. James was inspired by this piece and initially recorded the trumpet over the traditional 2005 single version. But later this recording was remade, and it was based on an updated version of the composition, remixed in 2023 with the addition of several new parts, and using new ocean noise. The second bonus track is an updated version of 2023, only without the trumpet.
